in Dayton, Ohio. 

When a composer's strike left Duke Ellington
sidelined, Billy Strayhorn, along 
with Ellington's son, stepped in to do
some of the music writing.

Here's "Take the 'A' Train," which
would become the Ellington orchestra's 
signature melody.
