Known alternately as "Sassy Sarah" and 
"The Divine One" Sarah Vaughan possessed 
what has been considered one of the most 
wondrous voices of the 20th century.

Her rise to stardom began when she won 
a week performing at the Apollo Theater 
in a talent contest. There she would be
discover by bandleader Earl 'Fatha' Hines 
who hired her immediately.
