«Woodstock» - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Joni Mitchell)

Interviewing Graham Nash about Joni Mitchell

                                              "Woodstock"
Well I came across a child of God, he was walking along the road
And I asked him tell me where are you going, when this he told me:
Said, I'm going down to Yasgur's farm, going to join in a rock and roll band.
Got to get back to the land, set my soul free.

We are stardust, we are golden, we are a billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Well, then came along beside you I have come to lose the smog.
And I feel like seldom cog in something turning.
And maybe it's the time of the year, yes, and maybe it's the time of man.
And I don't know who I am but life is for learning.

We are stardust, we are golden, we are a billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

(solo de Neil Young)

We are stardust, we are golden, we are a billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong,
And everywhere was a song and a celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bombers jet planes riding shotgun in the sky,
Turning into butterflies above our nation.

We are stardust, we are golden, we are caught in the devil's bargain,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

  1. La versión de Joni Mitchell está más conectada
    e inspirada, musicalmente,
    con los nativos de norteamericanos
que con una banda de rock (& roll).

Está muy acorde a su espíritu
    con muchas inflexiones de voz
    -una ceremonia india sofisticadísima-.

Hay un cover magnífico en esa línea
de Erica Warford covers Joni Mitchell's Woodstock

    Igual, pienso que la adaptación,
    menos ralentizada, o más dinámica
del tema hecha por Stephen Stills,
    planteaba varios problemas,
en especial el fraseo y las
    inflexiones necesarias
    para hacer calzar
    la magnífica letra
    con frases más bien largas
    que resultan un placer
    seguir y cantar con CSNY.

    Graham Nash contaba
    en una entrevista
    que cuando llegaron
    en helicóptero a Woodstock
    y sobrevolaron de noche
    el lugar, David Crosby
    al observar las fogatas
    y a la muchedumbre congregada
    dijo que parecía un campamento macedonio;
refiriéndose a que algo así deben haber
parecido el ejército de Alejandro Magno
    en la antigüedad...
