We, shamefully, missed Benny Carter's
birthday this month - April 8 - and
are making up for that today.
He gave Miles his first recording
gig.
He wrote arrangements for Benny
Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington,
Lena Horne, Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa,
and Tommy Dorsey.
He broke the color barrier in Hollywood
as a sound track composer and he
was one of the great alto stylist of
all time.
(He played a pretty good trumpet
too.)
Enjoy!
