Charles Mingus Day‏

Born this day in 1922 Charles Mingus 
would turn the jazz world on it's ear 
with a plethora of innovations.

As a bassist he used his instrument to 
play extremely uncharacteristic melodic 
lines, performing all forms of bop and 
dabbling in free jazz.

He was a composer and bandleader whose 
lasting influence remains evident in music 
of today.
